Artist's Description

Fish illustrations. This colour plate, with five fish and accompanying notes, is from the 1754 edition of 'Poissons, Ecrevisses et Crabes' by French naturalist Louis Renard (1678-1746). This was the earliest-known work on fish to be produced in colour.
