Description
Light microscopy of fetal teeth. Teeth in part grow from the surface epithelium of the oral cavity together with a component of the underlying connective tissues. The primitive tooth on the left is at the cap stage of development while the other two are at the bell stage as the blue-stained tissue of the enamel organ looks like a bell. The curved epithelium within each tooth resembles the final shape of the tooth and it is here that enamel and dentin of the crown will be produced by special differentiation of cells. The central core region will become the root of the tooth with blood vessel and nerve supply. Magnification x90 when printed at 10 cm.
