Description
Fallow deer herd at sunset (Dama dama). This deer is found across much of Europe and was introduced into Britain in the 11th Century. It spends most of its life living in a single sex herd, but the herds come together during the breeding season in the autumn. The fallow deer inhabits woodland and meadows, and feeds on grasses, leaves and berries. It can reach a height of over a metre, although females are smaller than males. Photographed in October, in Surrey, UK.
