Description
Exocrine and endocrine pancreas, light micrograph. The pancreas is a double gland, with exocrine and endocrine functions. The exocrine component, consisting of serous acini, predominates widely, as shown in this image at low magnification. The serous acini appear as small, rounded units, in which central eosinophilia due to serous grains is prominent. In the centre is an islet of Langerhans, which stands out for its paler appearance and the arrangement of its cells in cords. Magnification: x180 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
