The coast of most of Europe may be traced by the lights of various towns, as can the Nile Delta at lower right. At far right is Moscow, at the centre of transportation 'spokes'. The red lights in the North Sea (left of centre), the Sahara Desert (bottom) and Syria (bottom right) come from oil fields. This image is a mosaic of frames made at night by US Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) spacecraft.
