Description
Emergency contraception. Young woman reading information about emergency contraception, with a packet of morning-after pills on the table in front of her. Her partner is seen in the background. This form of emergency contraception must be taken within three days of unprotected sex. Morning-after pills are oral contraceptives. They contain high doses of the synthetic versions of the female sex hormones oestrogen and progesterone that are found in standard birth control pills. This is the Levonelle morning-after pill, produced by Schering Health Care. This is the 2-pill version, which has been discontinued from November 2005 and replaced by a double-strength, single-pill version.
