Description
Edward Adelbert Doisy (1893-1986), US biochemist. Doisy received his doctorate in 1920 from Harvard University. His most famous work was carried out in 1939 when his team at St Louis University successfully synthesised Vitamin K, later establishing the distinction between vitamins K1 and K2. For their work on Vitamin K, both Doisy and Danish biochemist Henrik Dam were jointly awarded the 1943 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Doisy also received the Willard Gibbs Award (1941). The text says: 'To Professor Corner With best wishes E. A. Doisy'. This is a reference to US anatomist and embryologist George Washington Corner (1889-1981).
