Artist's Description
Early car road signs. Historical illustration of fifteen early signs for cars and other road users. The French text indicates that they warn of: steep ascent, steep descent, sharp left and right turns, dips and raised views, bends in the road, dangerous crossings, channels in the road, humpback bridges, road accidents, train crossings, road tunnels, rails projecting onto the road, and a village ahead. Artwork from 'Chemins de Fer, Automobiles' (1911) by French civil engineer Max de Nansouty (1854-1913), part of the 'Les merveilles de la science' series of 1867-1891 by Louis Figuier.
