Description
Dodos (Raphus cucullatus), 19th-century artwork. Roughly the size of a swan, the dodo was heavily-built and flightless. Found on the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, it became extinct around 1681 after humans arrived. Its appearance is known only from contemporary sketches and artworks, as no intact skins survive. Artwork from the 23rd volume (first period of 1899) of the French popular science weekly 'La Science Illustree'.
