Description
Daya Bay Neutrino Experiment. Photomultiplier tubes (PMTs, spheres) in a detector at the Daya Bay Neutrino Experiment, China. This experiment, a joint venture between China and the USA, is investigating the neutrino mixing angle theta one-three. The PMTs detect flashes of light resulting from anti-neutrinos, produced by the reactors of the Daya Bay and Ling Ao nuclear power plants, colliding with protons in the nuclei of atoms in the liquid within the detector. This work could explain why there is more matter than antimatter in the universe. Photographed in 2012.
