Artist's Description

Cracked ice, Lake Baikal, Russia. During winter, Lake Baikal freezes over and an 80 centimetre thick layer of forms over the surface. The movement of the ice forms large cracks that are highly visible due to the clarity of the water. Lake Baikal is one of the oldest freshwater lakes in the world (20-25 million years ago) and one of the deepest (1,642 metres deep).
