Continents 150 million years ago. Elliptical projection of the Earth's continents as they appeared during the Jurassic Period (200 to 145 million years ago). The alignment of the continents shown here dates to around 150 million years ago, during the break up of the supercontinent called Pangea. The Pangea supercontinent formed around 300 million years ago and began to break up around 200 million years ago to form the continents as we know them today. The prehistoric forms of Antarctica (bottom), South America and Africa (centre), North America (upper left), and Europe and Asia (upper right) are visible.
