Conservation of Iron Age axe-head. Close-up of an Iron Age axe-head being handled by an archaeologist in a laboratory. This artefact was produced by the Villanovan culture that existed in central and northern Italy from 1100 BC to 700 BC. Metals used by the Villanovan culture included both iron and bronze. This item, excavated in Verucchio, is being preserved as part of work by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Bologna, Italy.
