Description
POSED BY MODEL. Heroin user. Conceptual image of a drug user injecting heroin (diacetyl morphine). The black tourniquet tied around his arm makes the veins in the limb easier to find as they fill with low-pressure blood which is unable to return to the heart. Heroin is a white powder that is prepared for injection by mixing it with water and heating it in a spoon so that it dissolves. Heroin induces stupor & a psychological high". Long-term use causes dependence & tolerance, leading to ever-increasing doses being taken. Overdoses of the drug can be fatal. Addicts who stop using the drug suffer from withdrawal symptoms, including muscle spasms, cramps & psychological problems."
