Description
3-D MRI brain scan. Coloured three-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of a healthy human brain seen from the side. The front of the brain is at left. The cerebrum, which makes up the vast majority of the brain, controls conscious thoughts, emotions and movements. Its surface is folded into gyri and fissured with sulci. The small cerebellum and rod-like brainstem (both at lower right) subconsciously control the body's vital functions. MRI scanners build images of the human body using pulses of radio waves. Successive slices" are compiled into a three- dimensional image by computer."
