Description
Neck arteries. Coloured X-ray angiogram of the human neck revealing arteries that carry blood between the head and body. Arteries are coloured blue. The patient's head is at top right. Three main arteries are seen in the neck. At left & right are the internal carotid arteries. These supply the brain & head with blood. At centre is the vertebral artery, which supplies the spinal column. The large artery at bottom left is the subclavian artery, which supplies blood to the back and arms. This branches from the aorta (at bottom right) the body's main artery. Angiography is an X-ray technique where a radio-opaque contra- st medium is injected into the patient's blood.
