Artist's Description

Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata) nymph in soil. This agricultural pest goes through several stages in its life cycle. The larva hatches from an egg, and then goes through four distinct instar stages. The fourth stage is the prepupae stage, which burrows into the soil and then pupates. The adult beetle form emerges from the pupa. Colorado potato beetles are a serious insect pest of potatoes and other crops. Both adults and larvae feed on the plant's foliage and may completely destroy the crop.
