Description
Collecting water for cattle. Farmers leading cattle (Bos taurus) to traditional drinking troughs. In order to collect water for feeding the cattle, water must first be retrieved from a well. It is then poured into a low earthen-walled trough. Millet stalks at the edge of the trough keep the cascading water from breaking down the wall. Families take turns building the troughs, which are regularly broken or even washed away during the rainy season. Photographed in Chad.
