Description
Collecting eggs from a Nile crocodile. Researchers digging up and collecting eggs from the nest of a Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus), one of which is at lower left. This carnivorous predator inhabits tropical and subtropical areas of Africa, near swamps, lakes and rivers. The females lay 25 to 80 eggs in a sandy area. This nest is at the Pierrelatte crocodile farm (La Ferme aux Crocodiles) in southern France. Founded in 1994, this tourist attraction, research centre, and tropical greenhouse, has birds, plants and giant tortoises, as well as over 400 crocodiles in enclosed lake areas. Photographed in 2011.
