Description
Christ's stigmata. Artwork of Christ's rope-bound hands, showing the site of the stigmata. In this context, stigmata refers to the Holy Wounds that Jesus Christ received during his crucifixion. The wounds on his hands and feet were caused by the nails used to fix him to the cross on which he was crucified. The text is in Latin. This artwork is from 'Historia admiranda de Iesu Christi stigmatibus' (1607) by the Italian archbishop Alfonso Paleotti (1531-1610).
