Christ taking leave of his Mother' by Albrecht Durer. 1872 reproduction of a painting by Albrecht Durer (1471-1528) entitled 'Christ taking leave of his Mother'. Albrecht (Albert) Durer did much to introduce the Renaissance to northern Europe. His skilful use of perspective and mathematical proportions made him one of the outstanding artistic figures of the early 16th century. He produced many portraits, woodcuts, engravings and watercolours and is best known for his work, 'Four books on Human Proportions', which was published posthumously in 1528.
