Description
Charles Sanders Peirce (1839-1914), US philosopher, mathematician, logician, and scientist. Peirce was educated at Harvard, and from 1879 to 1884 was lecturer in logic at Johns Hopkins University. Peirce is now considered one of the most outstanding logicians and philosophers of his time, but struggled to find employment during his lifetime. Many of his writings were unpublished and he died in poverty. Numerous anthologies and collections of his works have since been published, including his papers on Pragmatism. University centres have been founded dedicated to Peircean studies.
