Description
Castle Point, Hoboken, New Jersey, USA. 19th-century artwork of the country house built by US inventor, lawyer and engineer John Stevens III (1749-1838). Stevens was the son of a New Jersey politician who held office during the period when the USA was formed and served as a delegate to the Continental Congress. Stevens bought land at what would become Hoboken, and built his estate at Castle Point overlooking the Hudson River. One of his sons would later bequeath land from the estate for the founding of the Stevens Institute of Technology. Artwork from 'The Country Seats of the United States' (1808) by William Russell Birch (1755-1834).
