Abortion caricature. Caricature of a female abortionist with a pregnant woman. On a shelf in the background (at upper right) are jars which each contain a pickled foetus. At top left are framed pictures of babies with angel's wings. The abortionist was described as the Monster of Monsters" in the accompanying text (not seen here). Image from 1902. At this time women could not legally obtain abortions on demand because of religious objections. This led to the establishment of illegal abortionists with little medical training. Taken from the French magazine L'Assiette Au Beurre."
