Canada-France-Hawaii telescope dome. This dome contains a 3.6 metre telescope. This telescope was completed in 1979, and operating time and costs are shared jointly between Canada, France and the University of Hawaii. The telescope is at an altitude of 4200 metres on the Mauna Kea volcano in Hawaii, USA. At this altitude the telescope is above most of the cloud and turbulent air, making the site one of the world's best for astronomy.
