Description
Camacho cascade battery. Historical illustration of a type of battery known as a cascade battery, and invented in around 1875 by Paris-based engineer Jose Santiago Camacho (1846-1878). This battery circulated the electrolyte fluid to reduce the deposition on the electrodes that made standard potassium dichromate (chromic acid) batteries unreliable. The battery won a gold medal at the Internal Exposition of 1875, and a bronze medal from the Society of Encouragement, Paris, France. Artwork from 'Electricite' (1911) by Max de Nansouty, part of the 'Les merveilles de la science' series of 1867-1891 by Louis Figuier.
