California 2008 wildfires. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) image, taken by the Global Hawk UAV, of wildfires (white areas) in northern California, USA, during the summer of 2008. This picture was obtained on 5 July 2008, when Global Hawk stayed aloft for nearly 24 hours, sending detailed images to help manage fire-fighting efforts. This long-range UAV, developed by Northrop Grumman, can reach any location in the world within 24 hours.
