Artist's Description
Brain anatomy. Artwork combining profiles of brain and head anatomy. The front of the brain is halved to show internal anatomy. The rear of the brain is intact. The brain's major area, the cerebrum, includes the folded outer layer (cerebral cortex) that produces memory, language and conscious movement. The cerebellum (round area) is at the rear base of the brain. It controls balance as well as muscle co-ordination. The brainstem (not seen) is hidden at the central base of the brain, running downwards to connect with the spinal cord. It controls subconscious functions like breathing. The head and neck blood vessels branch from the major chest vessels at bottom.
