Widely used in cosmetic medicine, this toxin is a muscle relaxant also used to treat bladder conditions, muscle disorders, and migraines. The packet contains a powder used to prepare an injectable solution of the neurotoxin. The toxin, Botulinum Toxin Type A, is obtained from Clostridium botulinum bacteria. Small amounts injected into facial muscles has the effect of smoothing wrinkles. The toxin was first identified as a cause of botulism, a form of bacterial food poisoning that can lead to paralysis and death. Botox injections uses far less toxin than the lethal dose.
