Description
Bone marrow cancer. Light micrograph of a section through a secondary cancer of the bone marrow (lymphoma). This cancer spread to the bone marrow from a primary cancer in the lungs. The spread of cancer from one site to another is known as metastasis. The bone marrow is the site of production of blood cells. Cancer in the bone marrow can lead to anaemia due to insufficient production of red blood cells, and a weakened immune system due to overproduction of abnormal white blood cells (which usually help to fight disease). Once a cancer has spread through the body, the chances of a cure are remote. Magnification unknown.
