Description
Bone growth, light micrograph from a section of a growth plate from a long bone. Cartilage at the bottom of the image is being calcified (dark red region) to form trabecular bone (orange). Bone marrow is present at the top left of the image. This process is known as ossification and it serves to increase the length of the diaphysis (shaft) of long bones. Magnification: X 100 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
