Description
Bockscar Boeing B-29 aircraft. This is the nosecone and cockpit of Bockscar, the B-29 bomber that dropped the Fat Man atomic bomb over Nagasaki, Japan, on 9 August 1945. The names of the cities of Nagasaki and Salt Lake are part of the nosecone artwork (added after the mission), with a winged boxcar carrying the atomic bomb from Salt Lake City (where the plane entered service) to Nagasaki. This plane was retired in 1946, and is now displayed at the National Museum of the United States Air Force, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, USA.
