Blue-black grassquit (Volatinia jacarina), 18th-century artwork. This bird is found in Central and South America. This watercolour was painted by British artist Sydney Parkinson (c.1745-1771) on Captain James Cook's first voyage to the Pacific (1768-1771) in HMS Endeavour.
