Blood culture bottles. Standard blood culture bottles containing a culture medium that is used to culture microbes such as bacteria that may be present in the blood samples. There are two types of bacterial blood culture bottle, identified by the colour of the lid. These are for aerobic (blue lid) and anaerobic (purple lid) bacteria.
