Description
Bladder tumour. Artwork of a tumour (purple, upper centre) inside a sectioned view of the bladder. Bladder cancers usually arise in the internal lining of the bladder. Symptoms include blood in the urine. Treatment involves excision of affected tissues, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The ureters (top centre and top right) bring urine into the bladder from the kidneys. The urine leaves the body through the urethra (bottom). Also seen are the ducts of the vas deferens arching over the bladder, bringing sperm to the prostate gland (lower centre) at the base of the bladder. At far right is the seminal vesicle. Both organs add fluids to help produce semen during ejaculation.
