Artist's Description
Beryllium production. Worker using a special shrouding and air handling system for production of the element beryllium. This element, used in nuclear weapons, is here being produced for non-nuclear purposes at the Rocky Flats Plant production facility, in Golden, Jefferson County, Colorado, USA. The Rocky Flats Plant was closed down in December 1989 and efforts then focused on cleaning up contamination at the site. Photographed on 30 March 1989.
