Artist's Description
'Beer Street' (1751), satirical engraving by William Hogarth (1697-1764). 'Beer Street' was issued along with 'Gin Lane' (see C038/2618) as a comment on the merits of beer and the evils of gin. In 'Beer Street' the inhabitants are happy, healthy and industrious. The prints were produced to support the Gin Act of 1751. This copy of the artwork is the 1759 reissue with changes made from the originals.
