Description
High-speed photograph of a blue bead impacting oil floating on water. The oil is floating on the surface of the water (yellow) because it is less dense than water. The impact of the bead has created an air bubble that surrounds the bead (bottom). Because oil and water are immiscible (they do not mix), oil carried from the surface in the impact forms a column below the surface.
