Description
Light micrograph of a common Bdelloid rotifer Rotaria sp. Bdelloid" refers to the looping leech-like motion by which this rotifer moves. Rotifers are allied to roundworms. They are usually freshwater though some marine species are known. In this photograph the corona of Rotaria is extended, and the cilia have been frozen in their movement by electronic flash. A funnel-like cilia-lined mouth cavity is seen leading to a pair of jaws or "trophi". Magnification x250 (at 35mm size)"
