Electric car. View of the batteries of the Kewet 'El-Jet' electric car. The car is a two-seat hatchback design. It is powered by a 7.5 kW (kilowatt) electric motor, with electricity stored in these batteries under the bonnet. The car has a maximum speed of 70 km/h, and a range of up to about 70 km. The battery takes 6 hours to charge fully. The vehicle is claimed to have a running cost of about 5 pence per kilometre, compared with about 18 p/km for a similar-sized petrol-engined car. This vehicle is being used by Ipswich Borough Council in Suffolk, UK. The car is manufactured in Denmark.
