Description
Australopithecus afarensis head, model used for a documentary about human evolution. A. afarensis (also called 'Lucy') is an early hominid, dating from about 3.2 million years ago. The fossils, discovered in Africa in 1974), indicate the brain was smaller than modern humans, about the size of chimpanzee brains. The facial structure is also recognisably different from humans. The model was used for the French film-documentary A Species Odyssey (2003), directed by Jacques Malaterre. The film used computer-generated imagery (CGI) and covered millions of years of human evolution and many different species of hominids.
