Description
Atoms for Peace speech. Page from an educational booklet on the 'Atoms for Peace' speech delivered by US President Dwight D. Eisenhower on 8 December 1953 to the United Nations General Assembly in New York City, USA. The quote at left is the closing paragraph of this speech, advocating peaceful use of atomic power and de-escalating the atomic arms race. Following this speech, seen by some historians as a tactical part of the Cold War, the USA launched an 'Atoms for Peace' programme to distribute nuclear applications around the world. This 1956 supplement is from 'Free World' published by the US Information Agency (USIA).
