Description
Atlantis space shuttle payload. Technicians at Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA, loading the European Space Agency's Columbus laboratory into the cargo bay ready for mission STS-122. Atlantis was due to launch in December 2007, but a faulty engine cutoff sensor meant that it was postponed until 7th February 2008. The STS-122 mission was to install the laboratory, which hosts experiments on weightlessness and its effects, onto the International Space Station (ISS). Atlantis returned to Earth on 20th February 2008. Photographed on 12th November 2007.
