Description
Ashfall Fossil Beds fossils. Display of fossils uncovered by excavations at the Ashfall Fossil Beds. Part of Ashfall Fossil Beds State Historical Park near Royal, Nebraska, USA, this site is where ash from an erupting volcano covered the area nearly 12 million years ago during the Miocene, burying the animals seen here. Fossils uncovered here include rhinoceroses, ancestral horses, camelids, canids, birds, deer and turtles. The majority of animals found here are Teleoceras rhinoceroses (one at lower right). Photographed in 2014.
