Megaraptor dinosaurs. Artwork of two Megaraptor namunhuaiquii dinosaurs at night. Fossils of these large carnivorous dinosaurs were discovered in Argentina in 1997. They are larger than most of the raptor-type dinosaurs, which generally stood at about the height of a human. Megaraptor is believed to have been around four metres tall, and over seven metres long. It had a fearsome 30 centimetre long hooked toe-claw on its feet (seen in lower frame) which it probably used for ripping open its prey. They are thought to have lived in the late Jurassic and Cretaceous periods (around 170-65 million years ago).
