Description
Apollo 15 leaving the Moon. Artwork of Apollo 15's (upper centre) ascent from the Moon. At centre left is the Hadley Delta Mountain whilst at centre right is George Crater. Also seen in the image, at far right, is Hadley Rille. Rilles are elongated trenches found on the moon. Apollo 15 landed on the Moon on 30 July 1971. During their 67 hours on the Moon, astronauts Scott and Irwin made three excursions on the surface including the first use of a lunar roving vehicle. During that time, astronaut Worden made 74 orbits of the Moon in the command and service module. All three astronauts returned safely to Earth on 7 August 1971.
