Apache Point infrared telescope. This telescope is operated by the Astrophysical Research Consortium, using a 3.5-metre diameter mirror to focus radiation arriving from space, with a detector recording the infrared portion of that radiation. The telescope is operated by remote control, and has been in use since 1994. Photographed at Apache Point Observatory, New Mexico, USA.
