Description
Antarctic warming trend. Model based on satellite and weather station data of the 50-year warming trend in Antarctica from 1957 to 2006. The colours show the temperature change per decade, from white (zero change) to dark orange (0.25 degrees Celsius). The overall rate of warming has been around 0.12 degrees Celsius per decade, for a total average rise of 0.5 degrees Celsius. West Antarctica is the region that has warmed most. Data obtained from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) satellite operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA). The results of this research were published in 2009.
