Description
Dash-7 supply plane being unloaded on the blue ice runway at Sky-Blu, Antarctica. This plane is owned and operated by the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), and regularly runs between the Sky-Blu base and the Rothera Research Station. As well as this Dash-7, the BAS operates four smaller Twin Otter planes. The Dash-7 is used mainly for long distance flights between the Antarctic bases and the Falkland Islands, although it is also used to carry fuel and supplies to the Sky-Blu ice runway. Unlike the Twin Otter planes, which have landing skis as well as wheels, the Dash-7 can only land on a hard surface.
