Description
Anglo-Saxon artefacts. 19th-century artwork of Anglo-Saxon objects at a burial ground excavated in 1860 in Long Wittenham, Berkshire, UK. They are: a bronze fibula (top left), a bronze clasp (top right), a gilt-metal fibula (upper centre), two circular fibulae (centre left and centre right), a bone ring and bronze tweezers (centre), two cruciform fibulae (lower right and lower left), and a glass spindle-whirl (lower centre). These artworks illustrated a paper describing these objects, by British antiquarian John Yonge Akerman (1806-1873). Published in Volume 39, Issue 1 (1863) of 'Archaeologia', the journal of the Society of Antiquaries of London.
